We both believe passionately in the importance of education.  Elsa was a school teacher for seventeen years and our elder daughter was also a teacher for twelve.  I have been involved in education at many levels, albeit mainly as an observer.  I have helped to inspect twenty-four schools as an Ofsted Lay Inspector, lectured at evening classes, served as a university external examiner, and assessed countless degree courses for the British Computer Society over a period of fifteen years.  It is therefore hardly surprising that we believe education to be the single biggest influence on our lives, and we both strive to pass on our enthusiasm about it to anyone who will listen.
